How to recognise a phishing scam

A phishing scam can involve fraudulent emails and SMS messages, that may happen at any time. Please be aware that these messages are not legitimate and are part of a phishing attempt to gather personal information.

How to Recognise the Red Flags:

The fraudulent SMS or email may include one or more of the following red flags…

  • Generic Greetings: The message does not address you by your name, instead using general terms like “Dear customer.”
  • Poor Grammar and Spelling: The text contains unusual phrasing or spelling errors.
  • Incorrect Contact Information: The contact number or email provided in the message is not associated with the product provider.
  • Urgency: The message creates a sense of urgency, pressuring you to call back immediately.
  • Request for personal information: Legitimate organizations do not request personal information, such as usernames, passwords, or credit card numbers, via email, social media, or other online means.
  • Suspicious links: Hover over links to check their actual destinations, and do not click on suspicious links or download attachments that you were not expecting.

What to do if you receive a suspicious Email or SMS:

  • Do not respond: Please do not reply to the SMS or contact any phone numbers provided.
  • Do not share personal information: Do not provide any personal or financial information.
  • Report the incident: Inform your service provider if you receive any suspicious communication. This helps them take appropriate action and alert other clients.

Very often the product provider will confirm that they are aware of this scam and are actively working to neutralize it. They will also issue official communication to their clients directly.

As always, we urge you to remain vigilant and cautious with your personal information.

Always take proactive steps to protect your personal data.
